On Feb. 18, 2010, the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission (IWCC) shut down an uninsured employer: ZRJ Auto Repair at 2545 W Chicago Avenue in Chicago.
The Commission reported that as in previous cases, it gave the employer several opportunities to come into compliance before taking this serious step.
Uninsured employers are deemed a serious threat to public safety and welfare, and the law authorizes the Commission to shut such employers down.
The Commission commended Insurance Compliance Division staff for their efforts to make work more safe for workers and the business environment more fair for employers.
