A Dickinson, N.D., insurance agent is accused of stealing $30,000 from a customer three years ago to buy gold coins and make a payment on his credit card.
Scott Biggs is charged with five felonies. The most serious carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison. He and his attorney wouldn’t comment on the case.
Earlier this month, Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm ordered Biggs to quit selling insurance in North Dakota.
The Dickinson Press reports Biggs was in court on July 20. Southwest District Judge Zane Anderson ordered him not to leave North Dakota without permission.
Court documents say Biggs obtained two checks from his customer’s savings account in September 2009.
One $23,000 check went for a credit card payment. The other check for almost $6,000 bought three gold coins.
