2 Sentenced for Insurance Fraud in Ohio

Ohio Lieutenant Governor and Department of Insurance Director Mary Taylor announced that two insurance fraud investigations have led to criminal convictions in the Columbus and Cleveland areas. The cases were related to insurance claim padding totaling nearly $20,000.

Randall Stewart, of Canal Winchester, pled guilty in the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas to a misdemeanor count of insurance fraud. It was discovered Stewart submitted false receipts for alleged personal belongings in an attempt to collect nearly $11,000 in insurance proceeds from a homeowners insurance claim. He will be required to serve 60 days in jail if he does not abide by the guidelines of his sentence.

In a separate case, Christopher Foxworth, of Cleveland, pled guilty in the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas to one felony count of attempted insurance fraud. An investigation revealed Foxworth submitted false documentation in an attempt to substantiate the purchase of nearly $8,000 of camera equipment, allegedly taken during an automobile break-in. He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 20.
