The North Dakota Insurance Department wants health insurance companies to disclose the number of people whose policies will be canceled under President Barack Obama’s health care law.
Individual health insurance policies are being canceled for millions of people nationwide who buy individual insurance policies as federal health care reform requires plans to cover certain benefits. Policies are being discontinued because they don’t meet the higher benefit requirements of the Affordable Care Act.
Deputy Insurance Commissioner Rebecca Ternes has requested the information from three companies selling coverage on the Healthcare.gov website. The companies are Blue Cross Blue Shield North Dakota, Sanford Health and Medica.
The state Insurance Department also wants the insurance companies to disclose the number of people who have signed up for the plans.
