Illinois officials say they’re seeing strong interest from insurance companies as they prepare for the second year of new coverage options under the nation’s new health care law.
The state Department of Insurance said that 10 insurance carriers have submitted 504 health plans for approval to be sold on the state’s marketplace for coverage in 2015.
That’s an increase compared to last year when eight insurance carriers offered 165 plans.
The insurance department didn’t release the names of the insurance companies. Prices also haven’t been announced.
The insurance department is reviewing the applications and will recommend which plans the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services should certify for sale in Illinois.
Consumers will be able to start shopping for coverage on Nov. 15.
