A Detroit suburb has received a $5 million insurance payment to help the city bounce back from damage caused by flooding in August.
Torrential rain and flooding on Aug. 11 damaged city property at the Warren Community Center, police department and district courthouse. City Controller Rob Maleszyk tells The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens the payment is the first and only insurance check the city will receive for property damages.
But officials expect additional relief within the next few months from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Warren was one of the cities in Michigan hit hardest by the flooding last summer. More than 18,000 homes and businesses were damaged.
