Federal Judge Orders St. Louis to Pay $1.5M in False Arrest Case

The city of St. Louis has been ordered to pay nearly $1.5 million in damages to a man falsely arrested 14 years ago.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the July 26 ruling by a federal judge could end a four-year legal battle in which Michael J. Banks sought damages from the Board of Police Commissioners and the city.

Banks alleged in the suit that then-officer Reginald Williams punched and robbed him of $1,100 during the arrest in 2002. Banks was later acquitted of the only charge that arose from the stop, illegal use of a weapon.
