Smith to Retire from Indiana Farmers Insurance; Search on for New CEO

Kimberly O. Smith, J.D, president and CEO of Carmel, Indiana-based Indiana Farmers Insurance, has announced she will retire effective January 2022.

The board of directors has engaged the Carlisle Group, an executive search firm, to identify candidates to fill Smith’s role.

Smith has served in numerous leadership positions in the insurance, higher education and not-for-profit industries. Her insurance career began in 1980 when she joined Indiana Insurance Co. in Indianapolis as a claims attorney. She came to Indiana Farmers Insurance in 2000 as vice president and general counsel. She was elected executive vice president in 2012 and president and CEO effective January 2014.

Smith is currently on the Board of Trustees of Indiana State University, serving as secretary and chair of the Finance Committee. She is also on the board of the American Association of Insurance Services and the Indiana State University Foundation Board for which she previously served as chair. She has served on the boards of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies, Indiana Compensation Rating Bureau, and the Indiana Guaranty Association.

Indiana Farmers Insurance is a Midwest-based company that writes auto, home, farm, and business insurance.
