The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is responding to the agricultural devastation caused by tornadoes and flooding in the Midwest.
On May 24, Farm Service Agency (FSA) Administrator Zach Ducheneaux signed an Administrator’s Physical Loss Notification (APLN), making 29 counties in Iowa—eight primary and 21 contiguous—eligible for FSA emergency loans for physical damages and losses caused by thunderstorms and tornadoes that occurred April 26 through April 27. Contiguous counties in Missouri and Nebraska are also eligible for APLN emergency loan assistance.
Impacted producers can contact their local USDA Service Center to report losses and learn more about program options available to assist in their recovery from crop, land, infrastructure, and livestock losses and damages.
Producers in counties with a primary or contiguous disaster designation may be eligible for low-interest emergency loans to help them recover from production and physical losses. FSA also offers several loan servicing options for borrowers who are unable to make scheduled payments on their farm loan programs debt because of reasons beyond their control.
