XL Reinsurance America Inc., a subsidiary of XL Capital Ltd has named John P. Welch as president and chief operating officer. He will report to James H. Veghte, chairman and chief executive officer of XLRA, and chief executive of XL’s Reinsurance General Operations. Welch will also join XL’s Reinsurance Executive Group, composed of the senior officers of the various entities within the company’s reinsurance division.
Welch began his career in Aetna Life and Casualty’s Actuarial Department in 1987. He joined XLRA in 1997 and has held a variety of positions, including chief actuary and, most recently, head of casualty and surety underwriting. Welch graduated from Fairfield University.
Veghte commented: “I am pleased that John has accepted the position of President and COO of XLRA. He has a broad range of experience in the actuarial, underwriting, strategic planning and finance disciplines.”
