General Star has made four types of data privacy coverage available to its Select and Premier physicians & surgeons policies. The protection is included without additional charge.
The enhancement was driven by a need for doctors and other medical professionals to guard their practices from the vulnerabilities arising out of advances in technology. In response, General Star has developed and launched a solution designed especially for this emerging risk.
General Star’s data privacy coverage consists of the following four categories:
- Breach of privacy and security—$50,000 limit
- Governmental fines and penalties—$50,000 limit
- Advisory Costs—$50,000 limit
- Data Restoration—$5,000 limit
The new safeguard is provided as a separate coverage part containing all four categories. As a result, payments made for eligible data privacy claims will not erode the professional liability limits available in the professional liability coverage part. An aggregate limit of $50,000 applies to covered data privacy damages arising from the same claim.
Coverage for the Select and Premier policies remains written on a non-admitted basis in all states.
“Many businesses wage a daily battle to fend off invasions of their private records and data. Medical professionals face many of the same challenges,” said Jim Baldyga, VP and Medical Professional Division Manager.
