People Moves: Great American P&C Names Thompson President; Philadelphia Insurance Promotes Ricca, Rosencrans, Flowers

Great American Insurance Group announced that David L. Thompson Jr. has been named president and chief operating officer of Great American’s Property & Casualty Group.

Thompson will become the 18th president in Great American’s 150-year history, assuming this title from Gary J. Gruber. Gruber has held the position of president and chief operating officer for the past five years and served as executive vice president from 2010-2016. He recently announced that he will retire effective April 1, 2022, after nearly 45 years of service with the company.

Thompson has served as executive vice president of the P&C Group since 2019. He joined Great American in 2006 and since that time, has held various positions of increasing responsibility within the organization, including divisional president. In 2014, he assumed senior reporting officer responsibilities as a divisional Group president and was promoted in 2017 to senior vice president. While in these roles, he has worked directly with numerous specialty property/casualty businesses as well as several shared service functions, including reinsurance, predictive analytics and the Dempsey & Siders Insurance Agency.

The members of Great American Insurance Group are subsidiaries of American Financial Group, Inc. (AFG), also based in Cincinnati, Ohio. Carl H. Lindner III is AFG’s co-chief executive officer.

Philadelphia Insurance Companies Promotes Three Marketing Leaders

Philadelphia Insurance Companies (PHLY) announced the promotion of three to positions as regional vice president of Marketing.

Michael Ricca has been promoted from vice president to regional vice president of Marketing in PHLY’s Metro region covering parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York.

Christopher Rosecrans has been promoted from vice president to regional vice president of Marketing in PHLY’s Sunbelt region covering parts of California, Nevada and Arizona.

Jonathan Flowers has been promoted from assistant vice president to regional vice president of Marketing in PHLY’s Ohio Valley region covering Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia and Tennessee.

Ricca joined PHLY in 1998 as a claims examiner in the Bala Cynwyd office before becoming a marketing representative in 2001. He was promoted to regional sales manager in 2010, assistant vice president in 2013, and vice president in 2017. He has also been an instructor for PHLY’s New Hire Training for more than six years.

Rosecrans joined PHLY as a marketing representative in April 2007. Rosecrans has been in management since 2011, developing relationships with agents throughout the region. He was promoted to vice president in 2017.

Flowers joined PHLY in 2013 as a senior marketing representative in the Southeast. In 2015, he was promoted to regional sales manager and subsequently to assistant vice president. He has been influential in mentoring regional marketing leadership and other employees.
