Markel Insurance Appoints Da Costa to Lead U.S. Cyber and Tech E&O Portfolio

Markel, the insurance operations within Markel Group Inc., appointed Raphael Da Costa to lead its U.S. cyber and tech E&O portfolio.
Da Costa oversees Markel’s U.S. cyber and tech E&O underwriting strategy, portfolio management and product development. He’ll work closely with underwriting, claims and actuarial to support disciplined growth and deliver solutions aligned with the shifting cyber risk environment.
Da Costa has over 15 years of experience driving innovation in the cybersecurity and insurance sectors. He joined Markel in 2023 and most recently led the strategic development and execution of U.S. cyber and technology E&O insurance products for middle market risks.
Markel is headquartered in Richmond, Virginia.
Brown & Riding Names Kerr National Private Client Practice Leader
Brown & Riding, headquartered in Dallas, Texas, hired Courtney Kerr to its underwriting and select accounts division as national private client practice leader, responsible for building and overseeing the firm’s private client strategy, facilities, and underwriting standards nationwide.
With over 15 years of industry experience, Kerr brings deep expertise in high-net-worth and specialty personal lines, with a particular focus on fine art, collectibles, and complex, high-value risks. She is a Lloyd’s tribunalized coverholder and a trusted partner to many U.S.-based insurers. Kerr will serve as the central underwriting authority for Brown & Riding’s private client practice, shaping facility design, appetite, and underwriting approach.
