The Hartford President A. Morris “Mo” Tooker is to succeed Christopher Swift as CEO in March 2027.
Swift will transition to the role of executive chair of the board after nearly 13 years as CEO. Tooker will join the board, effective Oct. 1.

Tooker has been with Hartford, Connecticut-based The Hartford since 2015, when he joined as chief underwriting officer. He has since served in successive leadership roles of increasing responsibility. He was promoted to president in early 2025 and has led business performance, strategy and enterprise-wide execution.
Before joining The Hartford, Tooker served as president of General Reinsurance Corporation.
During his tenure at The Hartford, Tooker advanced underwriting capabilities, expanded risk appetite and grown risk-mitigation services across the enterprise to help customers prevent loss and build resilience. The Hartford said Tooker fostered collaboration across business units by implementing a holistic go-to-market approach.
As CEO and CFO, Swift led the company’s transformation into a more focused and disciplined insurer, strengthening its financial profile, more than tripling net income ROE and driving a more than eightfold increase in share price. The Hartford said Swift will help guide and oversee corporate strategy and serve as an advisor to the CEO.
