The Arkansas Department of Insurance has issued a rule that establishes standards for developing and protecting customer information, Rule and Regulation 77-Standards for Safeguarding Customer Information.
It was drafted in compliance with the federally mandated Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, which was passed by Congress in 1999 and requires states to develop safeguards to protect nonpublic personal, nonpublic personal financial, and personal health information about customers that may be submitted on insurance applications.
Commissioner Mike Pickens said the new rule adds privacy protection and “strengthens the privacy laws already in place for Arkansans.”
For more information about the rule, visit the Arkansas Insurance Department’s Web site at www.state.ar.us/insurance. Click on the Bulletins/Directives link at the left- hand margin; then click on the Rules and Regulations link.
