The Hanover Launches Connections Auto in La.

March 28, 2006

The Hanover Insurance Group, headquartered in Worcester, Mass., announced the Louisiana launch of Connections Auto, which expands the auto product into ten states: Louisiana, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Michigan, New York, Tennessee and Virginia.

“The initial market response to Connections Auto has been very strong,” said Marita Zuraitis, president of The Hanover’s property and casualty companies. “Since launching this product in April 2005, The Hanover’s new auto business has increased dramatically in states where Connections Auto is available, and the momentum continues to build.”

The company said that with Connections Auto, The Hanover agents can quote and issue new business for 95 percent of the market, accommodating a broad spectrum of customers for all phases of their lives. Risks are tiered by objective and verifiable criteria.

Hanover also said the product is supported by strong, local management, a responsive service team dedicated to first-call resolution, and a streamlined, single platform point-of-sale application, making it easier and faster to use.

“Information obtained from customer applications is evaluated in real time,” Zuraitis said. “Risks are quoted quickly and accurately, with tremendous differentiation based on each driver’s individual characteristics and other factors, and new business policies are issued in a straight-through issuance process. Consequently, our agents can sell more business, more quickly, often with the same company that provides their customers with homeowners and boat coverage.

The Hanover has introduced new auto insurance discounts in combination with Connections Auto, including a discount for policies paid in full on the first installment, and a homeowners discount, even if the homeowners policy is with another carrier or the insured is not living in the insured residence.

Overall, Connections Auto has generated more than $85 million of new business and has helped The Hanover expand its distribution network, adding more than 300 new Personal Lines agents since the product’s introduction in March 2005.
