The Texas House approved a conference committee report on Saturday to hammer out windstorm insurance reform legislation with senators.
House lawmakers sent the measure — which could cause lawmakers to be called back for a special session if it is not passed — to a negotiation committee on Friday.
Reforming the windstorm insurance fund was one of several key pieces of legislation jeopardized by a stalemate in the House during Memorial Day weekend. As it’s chances of survival narrowed, Gov. Rick Perry warned he could call lawmakers back for a special session if reforms are not made.
The windstorm fund provides storm coverage to property owners in coastal areas and needs to be replenished. It was hit hard by last year’s hurricane season.
The windstorm insurance bill is HB4409.
