The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced that more than $1 million in federal aid has been disbursed to Oklahomans recovering from the deadly April 14 tornado that tore through Atoka County.
The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management and Federal Emergency Management Agency have allocated $926,000 for housing assistance and $78,000 for other needs like transportation and medical expenses to people affected by the storms.
The disbursement comes a week after Atoka County was declared a federal disaster area.
Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management Director Albert Ashwood said in a news release he is happy residents are receiving their aid so quickly and encourages anyone impacted to register with FEMA by calling 1-800-621-FEMA or by completing an application at www.disasterassistance.gov.
