Central Texas was buffeted with winds in excess of 60 mph on Monday and the damage continues to be assessed. Homeowners are urged to contact their insurance agent or company if they have sustained roof damage.
Insurance agents from the hill country throughout the Austin area have received numerous calls from homeowners who have had shingles blown off, tree limbs crashing onto roofs, fences down and trampolines tossed around.
The Insurance Council of Texas recommends homeowners take the time to look at their property and if they find shingles in their yard or obvious roof damage to contact their insurer.
“We don’t recommend anyone start climbing on roofs to determine if they have been damaged,” said Mark Hanna, a spokesman for the Insurance Council of Texas. “If you suspect damage, you will want an insurance adjuster to come check it out and then, if need be, a reputable roofer.”
