The Craig County Sheriff’s Office says a volunteer firefighter faces arson charges following a series of hay and structure fires.
Jesse Bennett, 19, was arrested in connection to eight fires that occurred in August and September. The Big Cabin Volunteer Fire Department firefighter faces eight charges of third-degree arson and is being held on $150,000 bond.
Authorities say the fires grew in size and that the suspect even reported some of them to authorities. They say small hay piles were originally burned and that abandoned mobile homes were eventually torched.
He faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
