Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon has picked up another challenge to his fall re-election bid.
Charlotte McDaniel McGehee, a Democrat and lawyer from Baton Rouge, announced her candidacy this week. In a statement, McGehee described herself as a business owner and working mother who knows “the challenges our families face.”
She hasn’t yet filed a campaign finance report.
Donelon, a Republican former state lawmaker from Jefferson Parish, has been insurance commissioner since 2006. He has drawn a GOP opponent as well. Challenger Matt Parker, from West Monroe, owns a car repair business.
The election is Oct. 24.
In the most recent round of campaign finance reports, Donelon had nearly $543,000 in his campaign account. Parker reported just under $27,000 cash on hand.
