El Paso Blanketed with Hail, Heavy Rain Expected as Storm Moves East

October 23, 2015

A storm system that blanketed one West Texas city with hail is moving east, leaving other parts of the state awash under fast-moving floods.

Odessa Emergency Management says crews conducted about 30 swift-water rescues from stranded vehicles and flooded structures after heavy rain on Oct. 22.

The National Weather Service says 3.7 inches of rain soaked Odessa, flooding more than a dozen homes. Midland recorded at least 2.2 inches of rain. Heavy rain was forecast in Austin and San Antonio.

On Wednesday afternoon, a hailstorm associated with the same storm system coated parts of El Paso with a sheen of white.

The weather service has issued a flash flood watch for the Dallas-Fort Worth area from Thursday night through Saturday. Forecasters expect showers in the Houston area through the weekend.
