Insurance Council of Texas Hosting ‘Speed Interview’ Student Recruiting Event

June 14, 2018

The Insurance Council of Texas (ICT) in July will host what the association says is its largest student recruitment event ever held for insurance and risk management students.

ITC’s 3rd Annual Speed Interview and Network Session takes place on Thursday, July 12, at the Hyatt Regency Austin, prior to the beginning of its 26th Annual Property and Casualty Insurance Symposium.

This year, 39 ICT scholarship recipients will be interviewed by 23 insurers representing companies, agencies and the Texas Department of Insurance.

The event is an effort by ICT to provide students with an opportunity to interview and network with a group of insurance companies and others in one setting.

“Not only do we reward insurance and risk management students with scholarships, we also work hard to try and give them opportunities to find careers in insurance,” ICT’s spokesperson Mark Hanna said in the association’s announcement. “After every semester, we offer the resumes of our ICT scholarship recipients to ICT Member companies that are searching for applicants. The Speed Interview session gives the students a chance for a one-on-one conversation with employers, and helps to bring more graduating students into our aging industry.”

The students are recent graduates or near graduation and are recommended for ICT scholarships by their insurance and risk management professors. Many ICT member companies have participated in the event and we are hoping more will take advantage of this opportunity in the future.

“This is a great program,” stated Travelers’ Aaron Garcia, who participated in the 2nd Annual Speed Interview and Network session. “These students are prepared, they’re knowledgeable and extremely sharp. If I took this alongside a normal career fair where you do something along the same lines, this event blows it out of the water.”

This year’s students represent nine Texas universities that receive ICT academic funding and scholarships each year. The interview session lasts a total of two-hours and students will have approximately 3 minutes with each participating company.

After the Speed Interview session, both company representatives and students have some time to network and exchange additional information.

Afterwards, students and their professors are taken to lunch courtesy of QuestPro and then are taken on a two-hour tour and visit at the Texas Department of Insurance.

That evening, students will attend a Welcome and Networking reception, which includes a silent auction, whose proceeds go to ICT’s Education Foundation. The students also attend all of the ICT Symposium which ends Friday afternoon.
