Louisiana residents with damage from Hurricane Laura will get an extra month to sign up for disaster aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The deadline to register with FEMA had been set for Oct. 27. But the agency announced that it was extended until Nov. 27 in the nearly two dozen parishes authorized for individual assistance tied to Laura, which struck southwest Louisiana in August.
Louisiana’s congressional delegation had asked for the extension.
Homeowners and renters can seek assistance with temporary housing, rental aid and repairs to damaged property. Grants also may be available for medical and dental care, funeral and burial costs, child care needs, moving and storage and other items.
To register for assistance, residents can call FEMA at 800-621-3362, sign up at disasterassistance.gov or visit a disaster recovery center.
