A tornado watch is in effect for parts of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee until 6:00 p.m. CST, Thursday Feb. 16, according to the National Weather Service.
The NWS said to expect “Severe thunderstorms with damaging winds and a few strong tornadoes from the Lower Mississippi Valley to the Southeast, especially in the Tennessee Valley and Mid South” Thursday.
The tornado watch calls for a threat of isolated hail up to a quarter size and scattered gusts of up to 75 miles per hour. The potential exposure area includes a population size of 3,562,121, 1,346 schools and 150 hospitals.
The tornado area extends from southeastern Arkansas, northwestern Louisiana, west Mississippi, and southwestern Tennessee. Among the cities under tornado watch are El Dorado, Ark., Monroe, La., Jackson Miss., and Memphis, Tenn.
The potential thunderstorms and tornadoes are part of a wider storm cell expected to sweep through the eastern half of the United States through the end of the week.
