SpaceX’s Starship rocket launches in Texas have polluted an area across the border with debris, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said.
The president will meet with her cabinet soon on the “security and environmental impacts” of the rocket launches, the president said at her daily media briefing. The government is “reviewing what laws have been violated” and based on that review will “file the necessary lawsuits,” she said.
“There is indeed contamination,” she said.
SpaceX’s Texas launchpad, know as Starbase, has long drawn criticism from neighbors for its potential effect on local wildlife. Earlier this month, rocket debris was found in the state of Tamaulipas by a local environment group that protects sea turtles, La Jornada reported.
SpaceX, controlled by billionaire Elon Musk, didn’t immediately reply to a request for comment.
