The Texas Department of Insurance this week launched an insurance fraud task force that includes representatives from law enforcement, the insurance industry, consumer groups and other partners.
The task force was initiated at the direction of Governor Greg Abbott, who sent a letter to TDI in August requesting more aggressive efforts in curbing fraud.
The task force, which held its first meeting on Monday, has more than 60 members.
The TDI said the task force will:
- Coordinate statewide insurance fraud investigations.
- Share intelligence on fraud trends and schemes.
- Develop consumer guidelines to prevent fraud, especially after natural disasters.
- Expand public outreach through training, webinars, and community engagement.
