PIA of Fla. Plans September ‘Hurricane Lessons,’ Legislative Summary

August 1, 2005

The Professional Insurance Agents of Florida have scheduled four meetings in September during which it will presented morning “Hurricane Lessons” and an afternoon summary of Florida insurance regulations and new laws and regulations recently approved by the Florida Legislature. PIA of Florida has arranged the meeting schedule so members and guests can have a full day of applicable and fundamental insurance information.

“We want to make sure agents understand what the new laws entail and how to best implement them,” Mark O’Connell, PIA of Florida’s executive vice president explained. “Face-to-face meetings with PIA’s government affairs specialists Keri Rayborn, and Department of Financial Services staff promise to provide the best environment to get the nuances of these new laws across.”

A PIA of Florida announcement said that PIA and its staff is working with DFS and the Office of Insurance Regulation as they develop the rules and guidelines resulting from the new laws of this past legislative session.

PIA has scheduled these member meetings in the afternoon throughout the state–and has extended an invitation to the Independent Insurance Agents of Dade County, the Latin American Association of Insurance Agencies, and the National Association of Professional Allstate Agents to attend.

“These meetings will be provided at no charge to any of these organization’s members. We’re submitting the class for CE, so stay tuned,” the announcement said.

Meetings are scheduled Sept. 19 in Tampa, Sept. 20 in Orlando, Sept. 21 in Miami, and Sept. 27 in Pensacola, Fla.

The Hurricane Lessons course provides three CE hours and a five-percent Utica premium discount for E&O policyholders–all at $25 to PIA members, $50 for nonmembers. Members of the Independent Insurance Agents of Dade County, the Latin American Association of Insurance Agencies, or the National Association of Professional Allstate Agents, Keri Rayborn will be sending the registration form directly to you. Anyone wishing to participate in these courses must register for each course individually by signing up at www.piafl.org.
