N.C. Agriculture Losses $19.6M From Hurricane Ophelia

Hurricane Ophelia resulted in damages to North Carolina’s agricultural industry amounting to $19.6 million, based on reports tabulated from 13 counties.

According to the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, affected crops include corn, cotton, peanuts, soybeans, sweet potatoes and tobacco.

Carteret, Columbus, Craven, Duplin, Sampson and Wayne counties reported the highest losses. Crop losses included: Columbus County, $6.5 million; Duplin County, $3.4 million; Sampson County, $2.8 million; Carteret, $2.2 million; Craven, $1.3 million; and Wayne, $1.2 million. Beaufort, Bladen, Brunswick, Greene, Hyde, Onslow and Pender counties all reported agricultural losses.
