A South Carolina woman has pleaded guilty to one count of insurance fraud after she claimed her vehicle was stolen and burned, according to state Attorney General Henry McMaster.
Shaunta M. Dukes told police she had been at the movies in Harbison, S.C. Aug. 2 and when she exited her car was missing. The same car had been reported burning in Swansea about 20 minutes earlier.
Police were suspicious that there were no signs of forced entry or a forced attempt to start the car, which required a microchip in the key to start.
Dukes was sentenced to eight years in prison, suspended to five years probation, and restitution of $18,160 to her insurance company.
