Georgia Deputy Insurance Commissioner Alan Hayes has joined Southern Strategy Group as a lobbyist in its Atlanta office.
“Hayes has in-depth knowledge of Georgia’s legislative and regulatory arenas and will offer unparalleled insights to our clients,” SSG spokesman Chuck McMullen said.
Hayes most recently served as Deputy Commissioner of Insurance in the office of Commissioner John W. Oxendine. Hayes leaves the department after the successful completion of several Insurance Department initiatives in just under five years.
“Hayes’ experience in both the public sector and extensive knowledge of the insurance industry has made him an essential part of our regulatory team,” said Oxendine. “He has done an exceptional job as Deputy Commissioner, leading our Consumer Services, Public Education, Media Relations, State Fire Marshal and Industrial Loan Divisions.”
Hayes’ many accomplishments include implementing Oxendine’s policy of a more modern, customer-friendly department, expanding the department’s mitigation programs, cracking down on insurance fraud, and leading efforts to pass Oxendine’s legislative agenda.
“I know that Allan will continue to be successful and I wish him the best of luck in his new endeavors,” Oxendine said.
Hayes joined the Department after serving nine years as District Director for U.S. Congressman John Linder. He holds several insurance industry professional designations.
SSI is a large regional lobbying firm with 25 lobbyists, more than 250 clients, and offices in 11 southeastern cities.
