William M. Taylor, a former chairman of the Florida Republican Party, has died. He was 84.
Taylor, an insurance agent for 50 years, grew up in Thomasville, Ga., The Florida Times-Union reported. He moved to Jacksonville as a teenager and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1941, according to the paper.
He served as chairman of the Florida Republican Party from 1974 to 1980. He also was a delegate to every Republican National Convention from 1968 to 1988, according to the paper.
Taylor made two unsuccessful bids for public office. He ran for a Florida House seat in 1968 and for the Florida Senate in 1972.
