Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue says she’s through with negative ads in her bid to become governor.
Perdue is one of the two leading Democratic candidates for the state’s top job. She told reporters Thursday that her supporters have convinced her to stop running ads attacking her chief rival, State Treasurer Richard Moore.
Perdue’s past ads have criticized Moore for his ties to Wall Street and his office’s dealings with an insurance provider that sells coverage to retired state workers.
Moore has also run critical ads, calling out Perdue for her votes as a legislator in favor of college tuition hikes and against tax cuts.
Perdue’s pledge comes with a caveat: She plans to defend herself on the air against any inaccurate ads from Moore’s camp.
