A Kentucky high school class is taking a hands-on approach to learning about the legislative process by pushing for a bill that would ban texting while driving.
The News-Enterprise of Elizabethtown reports that the strategy by Leslie McCurry’s law and justice class at John Hardin High School includes circulating petitions and sending letters to lawmakers.
McCurry says her goal is to make the legislative process real for her students.
Senior Josh Humes says having teenagers support the bill could make a powerful statement to assist the bill’s passage in the Kentucky General Assembly.
Rep. Jody Richards, D-Bowling Green, said recently he decided to sponsor such a bill after seeing so many motorists typing messages, sometimes obliviously drifting from lane to lane.
