A former University of Georgia football player is asking a judge to reconsider his decision to dismiss a lawsuit that claimed the school’s athletic department failed to secure him a $500,000 insurance policy.
Decory Bryant’s attorney Hue Henry said he is “puzzled” by the judge’s decision and has filed a motion encouraging him to reconsider the ruling. He said “this case is far from being resolved.”
Bryant’s football career ended in 2003 with a neck injury. He claimed that a school official failed to complete the paperwork that would have paid him if an injury ended his career.
Athens-Clarke County Superior Court Judge Lawton Stephens tossed the lawsuit on Dec. 4, concluding that the athletic association was protected from some civil actions and that Bryant failed to properly notify the school before he filed his complaint.
