New Florida Agency Formed After Long-Term Partners Split

By | January 24, 2011

The Connelly, Carlisle, Fields & Nichols insurance brokerage firm, a member of the Aliant Insurance Group, began operations this month at its corporate headquarters in Clearwater, Florida.

The new firm comes after the split of long-term partners John Connelly and Lowry Baldwin of Baldwin, Connelly Co., citing differences over the long-term outlook for their firm.

Baldwin has opened his own firm in Tampa with offices in Naples, Atlanta, and Charlotte, North Carolina.

Connelly’s partners include Pat Carlisle and John Fields who founded Carlisle Fields & Co., and John Nichols, who founded Nichols Insurance Associates, which were part of the Baldwin, Connelly stable of firms.

In addition to its Clearwater headquarters, the new brokerage has an office in Brandon and is planning to open an office in Tampa. The firm has $100 million of premiums, which is roughly 75 percent of Baldwin, Connelly’s business.

“Our partners’ combination of skills and industry knowledge, coupled with the quality of our 62 employees, provides a tremendous platform for growth,” Connelly said.

The new firm focuses on helping small businesses, but has three niche markets. The firm covers some 400 churches, 350 restaurants, and numerous resident-owned manufactured housing communities.

Connelly, Carlisle, Fields & Nichols also partners with USAmeriBank to offer its bank customers insurance services. USAmeriBank, a subsidiary of USAmeriBancorp, Inc., has branches throughout Pinellas and Hillsborough counties. It is also looking to establish a similar partnership with Aliant Bank, and Alabama bank that is partially owned by USAmeriBancorp.
