The Mississippi Senate has passed a bill making it easier to appeal a decision of the state Workers’ Compensation Commission.
Currently, an appeal of a commission decision or award is appealed to circuit court and then, if necessary, to the state Supreme Court. Under the bill, the appeal would be made directly to the state Supreme Court.
Sen. Bennie Turner, a Democrat from West Point, says the current process is a duplication of actions.
The bill passed the House earlier and is now headed to the governor.
