Almost makes it seem like there’s a profit to be made in being insurance commissioner. Can’t be just for the glory.

Anybody but Wayne Goodwin. NC has one of the unhealthiest auto and homeowners markets due to excessive price controls. It has the largest auto residual/reinsurance market – 4 times as large as 49 other states combined. The pricing mechanism set up is broken, despite the populist rhetoric the Goodwin promotes. The good drivers pay more than they should because the ‘bad’ drivers are allowed to be charged a price to match risk. Dont even get started on the Beach Plan issues.

“@fortunate son” is way off base. It’s my understanding that NC has the 3rd most stable auto insurance market in the country, & many auto insurance companies continue to flock to NC. Published reports state that 72 *new* insurance companies have been approved over the last five years in the state and now there are 166 writing auto there. As for the residual market, Goodwin appears to be trying to bring companies and lawmakers together on a solution. Remember that he’s only been in office 3 and a half years, and inherited a system that’s been around for almost 40 years. It’s foolishness to be against Goodwin when he’s trying to reform the system amidst opposing, disunited industry leaders and split lawmakers. Reasonable industry and business leaders are sticking with Commissioner Goodwin: note his strong bipartisan support and comparative fundraising prowess versus his opponents.

NC is doing a great job due to te leadership of Jim Long. I was a agent for 21 years before I joined the Amry. Hope that the office of the commissioner will not forget Jim Long.
