A sheriff’s official says an explosion at a north Alabama fireworks manufacturer that killed two people happened during the fireworks mixing process.
Madison County sheriff’s Sgt. Brian Chaffin said the explosion happened during the mixing process late Friday morning at Ultratec, a fireworks manufacturer in Madison County.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office reported that one person was taken to the burn center at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital for treatment. Names of the two people killed were not immediately released.
Daryl Greene, who lives near the company, told WHNT-TV that he saw debris flying in the air and that the explosion shook his home.
A 1999 explosion at the facility killed one person.
