Nashville Police say some citizens are unwittingly helping car thieves steal their vehicles.
Police say a review of reports of vehicles stolen from the week of Jan. 31 to Feb. 6 showed that 68 percent of the automobiles were easy targets because the car keys were left inside or easily available to criminals. And four of the 19 vehicles stolen that week were running without the drivers present.
As a result of the recent reports, police are urging citizens to stop making it so easy for criminals. As part of the department’s continuing Park Smart campaign, police are reminding people to lock their car doors, secure their valuables and remove the car keys.
