Authorities are urging residents in North Myrtle Beach to be wary of scammers who claim to be part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and offer to help remove debris in the wake of Hurricane Matthew.
The North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety wrote on its official Facebook page Wednesday that a black pickup truck bearing a sign that read “FEMA” was seen traveling through neighborhoods in the north end of the city. Officials say the truck’s occupants were telling residents they would remove hurricane debris for $1,500.
Officials say FEMA personnel do not operate in this manner. Anyone who sees the truck is asked to record its license plate number and call police at 843-280-5511.
