Mississippi County Authorities Searching for Car Thieves on ATVs

June 29, 2018

Investigators in one north Mississippi County are looking for thieves who have been riding all-terrain vehicles to break into cars at night.

WHBQ-TV reports that at least two dozen vehicles in a rural area of southern Panola County have been burglarized in the last month. Riding four-wheelers may allow thieves to escape undetected across fields and back roads.

Resident Dexter Johnson says he heard an increase in four-wheeler traffic about the time the burglaries began, but didn’t realize some of the riders could be thieves. Investigators are having a hard time distinguishing between nighttime joyriders and suspects.

Automated game cameras took pictures of at least two potential suspects, but sheriff’s deputies say they believe more people are involved.

At least four locations have been burglarized twice.
