Alabama sheriff’s deputies this week arrested a man they say buried a Hummer six years ago after filing an insurance claim on the vehicle.
Bruce Parnell was taken into jail in Washington County, in southwest Alabama, after authorities received a tip about a buried vehicle, WKRG TV news reported.
The Hummer, a 2006 H2 model, had been buried for six years near Tibbie, north of Mobile. Parnell had received $22,000 on the Hummer insurance claim after reporting it stolen years ago, authorities said. It was one of 16 insurance claims he had made over the years, the sheriff said.
Parnell now faces two felony counts of insurance fraud and a misdemeanor charge of filing a false report, the local TV news reported. Parnell was released on a $50,000 bond.
