Two people were killed and three others injured Tuesday when at least two tractor-trailers exploded at a truck and welding business in Miami.
The Miami Herald and local TV news outlets reported that the explosion and fire in the Medley area happened just before 9 a.m. One person who was badly burned was airlifted to a hospital. The site is shared by two welding services, a truck repair and a truck cleaning service, the Herald noted.
The cause is under investigation but arson and homicide investigators had been called to the scene, authorities said.
Medley is near Doral, where a fire at a waste facility had been burning for more than a week, CNN reported. Two nearby schools were closed due to poor air quality from the smoke at the Covanta Energy plant.
In Palatka, in north Florida, three people died Monday in a house fire, the Associated Press reported.
When firefighters arrived, the home was almost fully engulfed in flames, Putnam County fire officials said in a social media post. Multiple crews helped extinguish the fire, the agency said.
The names and ages of the victims have not been released, and no additional details about the fire were available.
