The South Carolina Safe Home wind mitigation program has been revised to allow higher grant awards, due to the rising cost of construction materials and labor.
The South Carolina Department of Insurance said in a bulletin this week that the program, which helps homeowners fortify their homes to better resist hurricane winds, now provides up to $6,000 in matching grants for some types of retrofits. Non-matching grants, for households with lower incomes, have also been raised, from $5,000 maximum to $7,500.
The most recent bulletin can be seen here. An August 2022 bulletin is here.
