The California Department of Insurance (CDI) filed a request to be a part of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners’ (NAIC) Midwest Zone Continuing Education Reciprocity Project.
The CDI stated that it wants to join the Project to help improve serving the producer and education provider population of California by decreasing the necessary timelines to approve continuing education courses required to maintain a valid license.
The CDI’s request to become a part of the Project will likely be approved at the upcoming NAIC national meeting in September.
Low said the state will be able to sidestep redundancy and delays, and keep the high standards applied under California laws and regulations.
According to Low, benefits of joining the Zone project will include strengthened CDI investigation and auditing efforts; and time saved in the review process of Zone-approved courses, resulting in the processing of more applications. Moreover, the agreement guidelines do not require the CDI to accept any course topic or provider that is ineligible for approval through California laws and regulations, which will help maintain California’s standards as some of the most stringent in the country. The Project also meets a NAIC Regulation 2000 initiative.
