California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner ordered Dent Defense Group Inc., a Concord-based company, to pay $60,000 in fines for transacting insurance in California without a proper license.
Dent Defense Group Inc. illegally sold pre-paid paintless dent repair contracts from 2005 through 2007, the Department of Insurance stated. Under those contracts, Dent Defense Group agreed to repair small dents and dings for covered vehicles. The contracts were considered insurance policies, and only legally allowed to be sold in California by a licensed insurance company. Dent Defense failed to obtain a license from the Department of Insurance before selling the products.
Electronic copies of the Commissioner’s complaint, settlement, and related order for Dent Defense are available on the Department of Insurance Web site at www.insurance.ca.gov.
