Association of California Insurance Companies Names Sektnan President

January 25, 2011

The Association of California Insurance Companies (ACIC) and Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCIAA) announced that Mark Sektnan has been promoted to ACIC president. Following a distinguished career in the property/casualty industry Sam Sorich has announced his retirement. Sektnan will follow Sorich as ACIC president effective March 1, 2011.

“Mark’s extensive experience and thought leadership will enable ACIC to continue our mission of promoting and protecting the viability of a competitive private insurance marketplace that benefits both consumers and companies doing business in California,” said Paul Blume, PCI’s senior vice president, state government relations. “Mark has a wealth of knowledge and a broad government affairs network. We are pleased he will continue to advance public policies which foster a competitive and healthy business environment.”

Sektnan joined ACIC in January 2009 and has led key advocacy efforts to address personal and commercial lines issues. During his tenure with ACIC, he has managed the association’s activities on legislative proposals related to auto repair and homeowner disclosure. He continues to defend workers’ compensation reforms that have saved $50 billion for California employers. Sektnan successfully directed ACIC-sponsored legislation which modernized electronic insurance transactions, thus giving consumers more user-friendly and time saving options.

Sektnan has more than 25 years of experience in government and the private sector in Sacramento. He served as chief consultant to the Assembly Insurance Committee in 2004 – 2006 and earlier in his public service career, he was chief consultant to the Assembly Education Committee and the Assembly Government Efficiency and Consumer Protection Committee. He also was vice president of legislative affairs with the California Association of Health Plans and assistant vice president with the American Insurance Association. Prior to joining ACIC, he served as state relations officer with the American International Group and served as past chair of ACIC’s Auto Committee.

The Association of California Insurance Companies (ACIC) is an affiliate of the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI) and represents more than 300 property/casualty insurance companies doing business in California.
