California Gov. Jerry Brown has declared a state of emergency for two more coastal counties hit by last week’s tsunami.
The governor issued emergency proclamations March 16 for Mendocino and San Luis Obispo counties.
In Mendocino, the harbor at Fort Bragg suffered an estimated $4 million in damage. The Tribune of San Luis Obispo reports that the fishing town of Morro Bay saw more than $450,000 in damage to its harbor.
The governor had already declared states of emergency for Santa Cruz, Del Norte, San Mateo and Humboldt counties.
State emergency officials estimate the March 11 surge triggered by the 9.0-magnitude earthquake off Japan’s northeast coast has caused $40 million in tsunami damage statewide.
