The family of a Utah boy who drowned after he fell from a pipe spanning a Salt Lake City canal in 2009 has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the city and the state.
KTVX says attorneys for 8-year-old Trejon Fite’s family filed the lawsuit in the state court.
The lawsuit contends officials should have known the pipe over the Jordan River would attract children who would be tempted to walk across it.
Fite fell from the pipe into the river in June 2009. His body was found nearly two months later in the Great Salt Lake.
The lawsuit seeks monetary damages of more than $100,000 for emotional distress, funeral expenses and legal expenses.
City spokesman Art Raymond says the city can’t comment on the lawsuit.
